What costs should you expect during your stay with us in Montego Bay?

At Coconut Cottage, we want you to be as prepared as possible — prepared to relax. Here’s an overview of the kind of expenses you can expect so you can plan accordingly and avoid surprises after you get here.

Private Jamaica Villa Rental Costs Per Season

We recommend booking with us directly rather than through a third party like Airbnb. That way, we can offer more flexible terms and you won’t have to pay a booking fee.

Rates largely depend on the time of the year you choose for your Caribbean vacation, and can range from $1800-$2200 per night. Prices are highest during the holidays: the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year. During these holiday periods, we require that you check in on Saturday and stay for a minimum of seven nights.

During the shoulder season (early January through mid-April), prices are lower. Again, we require a Saturday check-in and a minimum stay of seven nights.

During the slow season of mid-April through mid-November (i.e., just before Thanksgiving week), our prices are at their lowest, and we require that you stay for a minimum of five nights. The same five-night minimum applies during the period after Thanksgiving week and before Christmas week.

Nanny Service for Families Traveling to Montego Bay With Kids

One of the best benefits we offer during your stay with us is a free Round Hill Resort membership. Round Hill is a 110-acre private enclave of luxury villas and award-winning amenities, including stunning beaches, high-end dining, and nightly entertainment. If you are bringing children to Montego Bay, you can enjoy family-friendly programs and special kids-only activities that are supervised by experienced and trained staff. The Pineapple Kids Club and 7-Up Club provide fun and interactive activities for both young children and teens that kids can enjoy alone or as part of a group. (Additional fees may apply.)

We will also be happy to connect you with a reputable nanny service so that your children can be looked after on our premises. Rates vary, and we can provide more current details when the need for a nanny arises, but the typical rate for a nanny is about $12 per hour. Also plan to spend about $20 per day on your nanny’s meals. (All prices mentioned in this article are given in U.S. dollars. Although the exact exchange rate may differ during your trip, one U.S. dollar is currently equal to about 145 Jamaican dollars.)

Typical Gratuities in Montego Bay, Jamaica

Tipping is always deeply appreciated. Plan to pay in cash (whether in U.S. or Jamaican dollars).

  • Tips for the staff at the end of your stay: The recommended staff gratuity as you prepare to depart is 10 percent of the villa rental price in high season and 15 percent of the price in low season. The gratuity will be divided among the staff members as outlined in the Gratuity Guide that you will find in your Welcome Book at the villa.
  • Tips for drivers: $150 for a week-long stay.
  • Bellhops at the airport: $1 to $2 per bag.
  • Spa and beauty services: 10 percent.

Ground Transportation

We heartily recommend that you explore Montego Bay, including its nightlife destinations, restaurants, and stunning beaches. We know that you will fall in love with this special place, and we will be happy to share our favorites with you so that you can get the most out of your stay and enjoy an authentic experience.

To get around, you can either rent a car or take taxis for shorter trips. Both options can add considerably to the total cost of your vacation. (If you are driving yourself, you need a U.S. license. And don’t forget to drive on the left side of the road!)

However, guests at Coconut Cottage are spared this additional expense. We provide a full-time driver and 12-passenger van to all guests who stay for five nights or more. This service includes:

  • A dedicated, licensed driver and tour guide.
  • Airport transfers both ways.
  • Service to anywhere, anytime. (Long-distance trips — such as to Kingston, a two-hour drive from Montego Bay — require an additional fee.)
  • One tank of gas (guests pay for any additional gas).

Our vans are air-conditioned and wheelchair-accessible.

Groceries

Although we offer several dining options, you’re also welcome to do your own grocery shopping. A typical grocery budget is about $50 to $60 per day per person for adults and $20 to $30 per person for kids. This amount covers a full breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Wine and liquor are extra and can be pre-stocked at your request.

Many of our guests like to stop at one of the big grocery stores on their way from the airport so that they can personally stock up on what they want for their stay. But we can also stock up for you in time for your arrival if you provide us with appropriate instructions when filling out our guest arrival form. Our staff can also shop for you while you are here. Please be prepared to pay in cash with either U.S. or Jamaican dollars.

Extras

Your complimentary Round Hill membership includes many of the amenities that the resort offers, like access to its beautiful beaches and pools. But there are extra fees for some services and activities. These include salon and spa services, water activities like kayaking and sport fishing, and a few others.

We can also arrange for our therapist to visit the villa for on-site spa services. Depending on your needs, these may include massage and skincare therapies, hand and foot treatments, beauty services, and wedding or customized packages.
